Messages
In short: the game can send your phone two messages, and only if you ask for them: one on the day a new season opens, and one when your turns are back each day (not during the beta). Never more than one a day, never about duels or attacks, and never at night where you are. You turn them on and off in Settings.
How it works
The two messages
| Message | When it comes |
|---|---|
| A new season opens | On the first day of a new season, to tell you the realm is awake again and a new hero waits to be named. |
| Your turns are back | Each day after the daily reset (0:00 UTC), if you have a hero in the season and have not opened the game since. Switched off during the beta: the beta measures whether the game brings you back by itself. |
On the day a season opens, its message comes instead of the daily one, never both. Nothing comes between seasons, while the realm rests. What other heroes did to you (a duel, a meeting on the road) is never a message: you read it at dawn, in the game.
Never at night
No message comes between 21:00 and 08:00 on your own clock (the time zone your device is set to). One that falls due in those hours waits until they end; if the next day's reset comes first, it is dropped, so you never get yesterday's message late.
Asking for them
Open the Hero tab, then Settings: A message when a new season opens and, once it is offered, A message when your turns are back. The first time you turn one on, your browser or phone asks whether the game may send notifications; the game never asks before you tap. Between seasons, when Settings cannot open, the season screen has Tell me when it opens below the season just ended, before your honours (see Seasons).
- Your choice belongs to this device: a phone and a laptop each ask for their own, five devices at most (a sixth takes the place of the one that asked longest ago). Turning both off makes the game forget the device, and turning one on again never brings a second message the same day.
- Your choice also belongs to the game's address. When the game moved to play.legacyoftheashendragon.com, messages asked for at the old address stopped: turn them on again in Settings at the new one.
- If you once said no to notifications, the game cannot ask again: allow them for the game in your browser's or phone's settings, then choose here.
- On iPhone and iPad, a web game can only send messages once it is on your Home Screen: tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, and open the game from its icon.
- Some browsers cannot receive messages at all; Settings says so.
- Tapping a message opens the game, or brings it forward if it is already open, and fetches what is new: a season screen left open between seasons shows the new season.
What is kept for it
Only what the messages need: the address your browser's push service (Google's, Mozilla's, Apple's or Microsoft's) gave this device, the keys that let only your device read the message, your time zone's name (such as Europe/London, never where you are), which messages you asked for, and when the last one was sent. It is deleted with your account, when you turn both messages off, and when the push service says the device is gone. When a device is forgotten, your account keeps only when that device was last sent each message, so asking again the same day, from any device, does not bring a second one.
Tips
- The season's message is worth having even if you play every day: it comes four times a year at most, on the day that matters.
- Messages you never see? Check the game is allowed to notify you in your phone's settings, and on iPhone that you opened it from the Home Screen.
